General Description

Process of converting Alternating Current (AC) to Direct Current (DC) is called rectification, and rectifier circuits are used to perform the rectification action. There are many types of rectifier circuits which includes half wave rectifier, full wave rectifier and bridge full wave rectifier. In bridge rectifier circuits four diodes are connected in closed loop bridge configuration to produce the DC. Advantage of bridge rectifier over full wave rectifier is that, there is no need of center tap transformer thus reducing the cost and size of the system.

D10XB60 is a silicon bridge rectifier integrated circuit. It is a single phase rectifier which can handle the maximum peak reverse voltage of 600 V.

Working Principle

In bridge rectifier circuits four diodes are connected in bridge configuration, thus called bridge rectifier. In classic bridge configuration two of the four diodes conduct during the positive half cycle of the input AC signal and the remaining two conduct during the negative half cycle of the input AC signal. as a result, current is directed in such a way that it only passes in one direction and converted DC current is produced. Although we can use four diodes to build a bridge rectifier circuit however off the shelf integrated circuit like D10XB60 are available
