NETWORK HUTT

Build a portable all inclusive platform for (IT/ICS/OS/Rad/WiFi) network troubleshooting, testing, scanning for remote sites/industrial.

Build a portable all inclusive platform for industrial settings from Solar farms to substations. It will cover IT/ICS/OS/Radio/WiFi/GPS network troubleshooting, testing, scanning for remote sites and industrial settings with a wide array of technologies.

I work at plants doing cyber security and assessments. I got tired of digging through my bag looking for cables and connectors from Console cables to modbus network taps. I had multiple laptops with many vm's setup for all sorts of plants with multiple environments. I had extra pelican cases for equipment for travel and was inspired after seeing the Nueromancer "Cyber Deck" that my colleague was building. By no means is this a cyber deck as it will be housed in a Pelican 1510 that is roughly the size of a small carry-on. This unit is meant to go to plants and remote sites, be rugged and have every conceivable tool you may need when all you have is the Hutt far from home.

Goals for this project:

  • Automatically connect to multiple interfaces.
    • Rj45
    • Serial
    • Wifi
    • USB Console interface
    • Proprietary interfaces
  • Establish Connection to network.
  •  Automatically scan for OT/IT Radio and GPS
  • Receive GPS and send location data to home server.
  • Enclose in nondescript travel size with provisions for multiple antennas, screens, 4 raspberry Pi 4, Ethernet ports, batteries, USB micro for charging.
    • Pelican 1510
  • Extended Feature Set:
    1. SDR
    2. HACK RF GPS Spoofing
    3. Wifi Tools
    4. Access Points?
    5. Camera?
    6. 3G Modem OpenWRT

  • It's Working!! Kinda.....

Finally getting some time to work on this more. I have been busy. I am looking to source the "face plate" covers for the inside of the case. I was going to print them but my MKrBot can only span about half of the length of the inside dimensions of the case. I believe I will mockup the face plates in thin wood to position and figure out mounting. Then once done can find a CNC machine to cut the final.

On with the build so I am using as the main brain a Asus Zenbook 2017. For ease (and because I have a lot of Win Forensics tools) It is running Win10  May 2020 Update is that it includes the Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL 2). The flat screen for inside the case runs off just the usb-c on the Zenbook and seems good on power consumption.

I am still loading vm's into the new VMware Workstation 16 (darkmode default FTW). I will soon have the kids flashing the SD cards for the Raspberry Pi's :) . I am debating the pros and cons of putting a small passive hub (no/low power) to link all the components with an OS/ni to be a mini network.

    and a short video.

  • Parts and More Parts

Found the Bin o' parts, a pelican case to use, and an old geiger counter I am gonna cannibalize and integrate in to the case

08/18/2020 - Start of project. First I will collect all cables, pi, monitor, keyboards and other peripherals that I use when doing assessments on the road at plants and remote locations. The Hutt is to be designed to cover all the environments and  equipment that I have run across and a few that I just think are cool.

The definition for a cyberdeck is pretty broad, I'd say a Pelican case full of electronics gets honorary mention at least. Though I am curious to see more of this Neuromancer deck you mention...
