Cyrix 486 Single Board Computer

I am in the process of conceptualizing and designing an open-source Cyrix 486-DX2-66-based single board computer for use with Microsoft DOS.

I am currently still in the process of conceptualizing this project, but my goal is to end up with a completely functional MS-DOS-compatible single board computer with the possibility of ISA expansion, but with all hardware needed for function built right in. By function, I am mainly referring to video generation, sound, and boot medium. This will most likely be a long term project, as it wont be nearly as simple as my 8088 project, as that consisted of only 8-bit paths.

Nice to see how the scope of 'Retro computing' is shifting towards what I would call 'modern' systems. Good luck.

Take a look at this MB.  It is ISA and MS-DOS compatible.  If you want to experiment with Software, it is a great starting point.

That's a CPU with a attractive label, certainly prettier than the Intel DX2s I used to have. 👍 for bravery, and best wishes, especially with that QFP. Look forward to more episodes.

Yah I was wondering whether that's the actual victim or a stock photo, and whether a source of NOS QFPs had turned up or something. Those may have been more destined for laptops at the time.

I actually picked this up from a guy in china who seems to have his hands on a fair number of these. If I can establish a source, i would be happy to try pre-assembling these for people!
