During the COVID quarantine, my family and I orchestrated a virtual recurring game night by playing board games over Zoom. One of our new favorites, ironically, is Mike Bostock’s classic “Pandemic”. The collaborate nature of this game lends itself well to distanced game nights where players aren’t all in the same room. Since there’s a lot of strategy involved in making collaborative decisions, we would often get into heated discussions and lose track of player turns and order of events. To help keep our place in the game, I created a simple “game tracker” with an Arduino nano, an arcade button, a Lipo battery, and a small OLED display. While it may seem unnecessary, it was a fun project to complete and turned out to be pretty useful during intense strategy sessions.
