4# - Spindle head and pneumatic cylinder for ATC
08/25/2021 at 13:46 • 0 commentsThe spindle head is made of lasered plates and holds the spindle cartridge (old version of the spindle flansh in the picture below)
Assembled spindel head (old version of the water cooling):
Spindle belt drive:
Self engineered pneumatic cylinder for the draw bar:
All assembled and painted (cylinder fixture is temporary..):

3# Spindle head and X-Y-table
08/23/2021 at 16:27 • 0 commentsA belt pulley was adapted to the 2.2 kW Spindle motor (China Spindle - used as motor) to drive the spindle cartridge
Components for the X-Y-table were machined on the lathe
Side stiffeners for the z column (lasered plates)
Assembled Z-axis, side stiffeners and X-Y-table

2# Z-Axis and Spindle
08/22/2021 at 14:47 • 0 commentsThe back of the Z-Axis was casted in UPH concrete
At this point i decided to go full in and build up the overall machine from scratch. I designed it in CAD and continued with the Spindle cartridge, since it is the most difficult part.
Turning the cartridge
Grinding the cartridge
Turning the spindle shaft
Machining the draw bar
Finished draw bar (hardend to about 54 HRC - C45k)
Spindle watercooling mandrel
Finished spindle cartridge (after some iterations.. :) )
Assembled in the spindle holder

1# Base material and first parts - project idea
08/22/2021 at 14:31 • 0 commentsWithout the actual intention to build this machine at the beginning, I started of with random cut offs from ebay. (Just planed to improve my former CNC milling machine)
First I used the bench top lathe (that was borrowed to me for a different project :) ) to get the dimensions of the parts on point
First finished parts...
Critical dimensions (bearing seats) were machined on the bench top lathe
