So, compared to a badge that are handed out at an in-person event, this will require a little bit of effort ahead of time. If you want to have a badge for the event, you will need to send if for production fairly soon.

This years color theme matches OSHParks purple PCBs very nicely, and the fine silkscreen details will come out great, as they use a high DPI printing technique.

The KiCad project includes a badge design with a grid of regular 0.1" spaced pads, but the idea is that you remove all those and add in some circuitry that you think would be cool to have on your badge. And with the current state of silicon parts supply, probably something you already have or at least have found in stock somewhere.

This is ment to to be a fun little extra thing, so no need to spend too long on doing the perfect design, but maybe try to remix something you did previously, or experiment with that little part that you never got to use and is just sitting there on the shelf.

The important part is having fun and sharing with each other.

Soldering up a couple of badges

Today was getting a few boards soldered up
First a layer of solder paste. I use the Loctite GC10, that is pretty easy to work with, and can be kept at room temperature.
All the parts are placed with tweezers, greatly assisted by the Interactive HTML BOM for KiCad
Half way through reflow, where some of the paste has melted. I'm just using a residential hotplate, and the heat isn't that even, so I move the PCB a little to make sure everything gets enough heat.
The two badges after hand soldering the SMT spacers, the joysticks, USB throughole pins and the screen.

The PCBs arrived today from OSH Park, and the purple is looking good as always.

Hi, I know this project is a bit old but I have the board from DC (I think) a couple of years ago but I have no components to solder. Is there a place I can buy the component kit?

I wounder, where did you find that RISC-V micromod board? The design looks official, but sparkfun has no such board on sale?

I have designed and build those. Currently there isn't that much info out about it, but I'll have a Github repo up soon, if you want to make your own. I might also make a few more at set up a Tindie store, but I'm not there yet.
