In my opinion when we use software that has already been in use for years, then unfortunately the keyboard is very important. Keyboard shortcuts are often permanently fixed and cannot be changed.
Therfore if this is linux not You own system the keyboard is important. Not everyone is going to use mouse on this hardware.
As for the screen, some keys (e.g. F1 ) can be moved near to the screen (on cover).
What do you think about the fact that the mounting holes should not only use raspberry pi zero but also orange crab and any feather layout? Orange crab have lipo power connector too.
I am limited with GPIO count, I found one more extra GPIO when I not use RESET line on display. I can not use any chip so it is limited, I understand you
