Please consider commercial GEN2.2 or GEN2.5, before putting all sorts of optional stuff on. When you have CM4 with the option of NVME and Ethernet, then POE and a single USB-A port is the only thing missing before you have a good board for a sea of miniserver or kloster projects.

One can easily use a collection of identical boards with CM4, NVME, Ethernet and POE (And maybe optionally full size USB-A).

On the other hand, it is less likely that you can use an entire collection of cards full of all sorts of gadgets such as buttons, display, camera, NFC, touch panel, fingerprint reader, GPIO and so on.

GEN3.0 will definitely be a nice card that could be nice to have 1 or 2 pieces of. But a small server rack with a POE switch, and 1 or 2 rows of headless boards in compact design with only CM4 and NVME will really also be interesting in its very own way :-)
