LoRa is a new wireless technology that has only been in use for a few years. Its combination of long-range transmission capabilities and low-energy requirements makes it appealing for projects that need to be kept in a position where access to power or regular battery changes isn't possible (theoretically, up to several miles). The disadvantage of LoRa is that its data capacity is limited; it's best suited for brief, periodic broadcasts rather than real-time frequency. Receiving temperature updates from a distant sensor every few minutes, for example, would be possible with LoRa; but, streaming a video feed would be impossible.

LoRa now works on three distinct frequencies. 433MHz has been set aside for Asia. The allotted frequencies for Europe and the United States are 868MHz and 915MHz, respectively. The most common LoRa Modules are SX1268 and others. SX1262/68 Chips are used in the majority of the IoT LoRa projects mentioned here.
