A device connected to a flame and a smoke sensor that sends a notification when there is an increase of the temperature.

We are a group of five engineering students.

As part of our studies, we have to do an IoT in order to create, with our others classmates, a SmartCity, and our topic is "Security".

We wanted to create an IoT which can prevent fires.

    Today, we started to make our Canva presentation for the final session, the 2nd of June, 2022.

    We also linked our RaspberryPi to our composants and we tried to run our project.

    It worked ! But the more we used it, the the lower the values showed. We also made an interface to visualize the image the camera send and the state of the gaz sensor.

    We are proud of what we have achieved, regardings all the problems we had.

    New session but same problems.

    It was impossible to access Raspberry card's shell. Even if we were able to find the IP adress, when we were asked to put the password, which was "raspberry", it was impossible to access.

    But a classmate came to us with an amazing solution.

    He tolds us to go to the Raspberry settings and to configure the wifi connexion there.

    It finally worked !!!

       To use a Raspberrypi card we need to connect it to internet in order to have a screen and a keyboard connected that we can use. 

      At the beginning we used a tutorial that we were given before to discover how to do it.
    Unfortunately it wasn't easy to connect, even though we've done it on another raspberry card. 

    First of all, we needed to install Raspberry Pi Imager to write on the SD card of the Raspberry Card.

     There are two files to create : an ssh one to authorize the connection and wpa_supplicant.conf to configure the wifi we wanted to use. 

    After creating those files and writing them on the SD card we needed to find the IP adress of the Raspberry card which is supposed to be connected to the same wifi that we choose before but then problems came up : we used an appli called Fing to find every devices connected to a network and the raspberry card wasn't detected.

    We changed many things like the Raspberry card, the SD card, the computer and the network but it didn't change anything, even Vlad tried black magic but he couldn't figure out what was wrong. 

    We were disgusted ...

    Once we chose our idea, we started to list the components. We had a budget of 100 euros.

    We tried to think of everything, to let the professors order them for next session. 

    This is the list we came up with :

    After our brainstorming last week, our professors told us to chose one of our idea.

    So we started to polish our ideas. We focused on preventing ideas with sensors warning people in case of need, and a camera which can be switch on by people.

    • House Camera Warns you if there are intruders
    • Video surveillance
    • street fires
    • Smoke Detectors for firemen

    We gathered two similar ideas : 

    IDEA 1

    Problem statement: fight little criminality.

    Solution: A device connected to a thermic camera with a sound sensor that sends a notification when there is a crowd of people in the street. Then the camera switch on and you can then visualize if there is a threat.

    Persona 1: Police officer/security agents who will check the cameras when they are alerted.

    Persona 2: Fireman, to detect fire for example when people burn trash bins, or cars...

    Persona 3: Vulnerable people who are harassed, bullied on the streets (for example Louise). Elizabeth, 68 years old, live in a calm neighborhood but sometimes she goes home by herself in the evenings. She is vulnerable and too kind and powerless to do something.


    IDEA 2

    Problem statement: How to prevent fires in the city

    Solution: A device connected to a thermic sensor and a smoke sensor that sends a notification/warning when there is an increase of the temperature in places.

    Persona: Firefighters, to detect fire for example when people burn trash bins, or cars...

    The idea of helping firemen by prevent fires attracted us, so we finally chose the idea 2.

    The first step was to choose a departement. We pick the security one, because we thought that it was one of the most important. 

    Then we listed several security problems we could think of in a city. This is the list we made :
