VESC6
The VESC (Vedder Electronic Speed Controller) will save you grief. It's an amazing motor controller. pricey though.

E Bike Wheel
If you get a direct drive motor with a wheel and rim for the PTO that's easiest. If you get a gearedhub motor you have to make sure you are running the motor the right way and the wiring is coming out the correct side or you can weld the clutch on the planetary gear ... see my youtube on that

2m x 5mm GRP or Carbon epoxy rod lengths to make the torque tube and top support rings
You will need varying lengths of this for different rings ~12 x 2m

Dacron Tape
for leading edges, line tapers, webbing, seams, joins, ring cuffs, anything sew-y

A soldering kit
You need a bit of soldering practice

Depending on your Ground station Plate metal to make a wall bracket anchor or an actual ground screw anchor
Hold your ground station to whatever it is with extra certainty and caution

A rollerblade type wheel with bearings
For lifting the top of the kite turbine. the lift line is through the centre. the turbine lines spin holding the rim.

Arduinos (uno or R3 compatible and mega or higher for regen controller)
wind power meter, kite controller, Regen control, charging control we can use these all over the show

Bike Battery to fit (at least 1)
The VESC is very tolerant and will accept anything standardy. Match to the motor performance at the speed and torque you expect

Kites to spin the turbine round
I kept to the same simple formula for years. 3 x HQ symphony beach3 1.2m kites per ring. Now I've moved to rigid foam blades, with film covering and carbon tube spars through the span and a 3d printed fuselage... your choice, the rigids are way faster and more powerful, harder to control regen for

4mm GRP or Carbon epoxy rod
Threaded into lower leading edge seam of the driving kites if you have soft ram air kites

5mmID*7mmOD*1600mm carbon epoxy tube with a 10cmx9mmx7mm cuff on one end
This is to make the ring. 6 pieces of this tube are not cheap. It is possible to replace this component. I used 1700mm for the rigid kites

XT90 anti spark battery connectors
Get pigtails made up for you unless you're a dab hand with heavy gauge soldering. These Anti SPark Connectors stop you blowing up your inverter with surge current when you connect the battery.

Anemometer and short windsurfer mast
This allows you to get wind speed data into the wind speed arduino so that we can control the regen based on the tip speed ratio of the turbine

A bunch of ground screw anchors (normally for connecting a pet dog to a point in a park?) and spare 3mm line
one to hold the back line down (or 2 if you want to make a running backline) 3 to hold the anemometer mast in place

EVSE car charger block which allows you to lower the charging current to suit your batteries and an EV car to go with it
kinda pricey bit this but you want to get one with the option to do a really slow charge to keep the power down to a safer more manageable level like 1.5kW
|

An inverter capable of charging your EV 5kW very min
Right, this is the bit you have to be very careful with. be very sure you have a safe non spark connection for the battery, the battery is capable enough of delivering the load of the EVSE car charger through the inverter, the inverter is over-specified for duty etc.

Dummy loads for testing - I like to use DC travelling kettles
a 12v in series with a 24v dc travel kettle makes a great dummy load in the field to release energy and make tea
|

× |
inline tension load cell - I used the s shape ones
helps you govern the regen based on line tension. fix it between the body of the ground station and the PTO wheel support

Track cycling chain and appropriate chain rings for ~3x speed motor gearing
you can get small fixi chain rings to fit the brake rotor side of the hub motor, and you may have to adapt a spider to do similar on the PTO wheel. The track chain standard is stronger than regular cycling chain.
