How many functioning machines are disposed of because of obsolescence? Imagine what you can do with their power and relatively simplicity.
We asked ourselves such question considering our needs: can we build a milling machine starting from something that was design for a complete different purpose? A standing mixing machine used in bakeries, for example!
The aim of our project is to convert such device in a milling machine, using recoverd material as much as possible.
The machine is mainly composed of six main different sub assemblies.
1 - The main body (Frame, Body, Spindle): Industrial kneader machine.
2 - The lifting mechanism (Z axis): Camera tripod with a custom device equipped with bearings linear guides.
3 - The stand.
4 - The cross table for X and Y axis.
5 - The frame for the rigid structure.
6 - The vise for clamping the piece to the table.

The presented project describes a device consisting of recovered parts and purchased components.
The machine is equipped with a 0.75 kW motor controlled by a VFD.
The introduction of the lifting mechanism and the cross table allows the precise milling of any type of materials in the three dimensional space.

The main challenge of this project was to adapt most of the components recovered from scraps to bring them back to life and obtain a completely reliable and working machine.

  • 1
Disassembly the planetary gear-box from the head of the kneader in order to leave free the spindle.
  • 2
Cut and weld the frame from steel tubes adapted to the original dimensions of the kneader.
  • 3
Mount and set the frame and the kneader over the stand.
