Useless Retro Panel Meters

If you are tired of LED Art blinking on your wall, try with mechanical panel meters!

Similar projects worth following
This project uses 32 Amp or Voltage meters and a small controller, which generates 32 PWM signals for the instruments. So it works 24/7, slowly moving needles at random.
There is also a PIR motion sensor, which affects timings so that controller gets "crazy" for several seconds after someone passes near the unit.

It shouldn't be that difficult to provide some 'reasonable' readings. I think the software problem can be easily solved using an 8266 or ESP32 and 'Tasmota' software incl. MQTT protocol for connecting to the 'Iobroker'. A bamboo-wood cutlery box (IKEA?) could fit as a housing. Just like that as a suggestion ;-)

If you've been doing your hobby for many decades, a lot accumulates in the craft box that can no longer be used in a contemporary way, but is always a good idea for a 'work of art' :-) Let's see what I can find in my boxes, for yourself if it doesn't turn out to be 32 measuring devices ;-) Great idea :-) :-)

Where did you manage to acquire so many gauges? I have been hunting around for some but have not been able to ever find this many.

Mostly on Amazon and eBay. Most of them are between $5 and $10.

Do you know what those meters used in the Apollo command module for the O2 tank levels are called?  I'd love to use them in a project but can't figure out what to google to find them.  They don't appear to be "level gauges" or "vertical pressure gauges".

I consider  meter movements to be art.  Wouldn't it be cool to interface them with random things like stock prices,  specific audio frequency, distance to the moon etc.

You are right, I was thinking about many parameters - temperature, humidity, wind, air pressure, time, date, inflation, Covid, ISS position etc. But then I just remembered that so many new project are waiting to be built... :)

However, there is still the chance for the upgrade. There is an aux serial in, and MCU has the ability to control all 32 analog levels.
