A Covid-lockdown project, embedding a Lenovo Tab M8 FHD Android Tablet into my car dashboard. This tablet was chosen as it had the required specs & features, and was the ideal size to fit into an existing dashboard mount piece.

The aim was to have it read the vehicle OBD-II bus, and provide real-time engine metrics, interface with the main stereo head unit for Android Auto, as well as offer all the niceties and quality of life features of an android tablet, on the road.

A DC Buck-Boost PSU (fed from the vehicle 12V persistent supply) was placed in-lieu of the Li-Po battery cell.

Unfortunately, during final assembly, pressure was applied to the LCD panel and caused the internal layers to separate, causing visual distortion. A replacement LCD was unable to be found.
Test Pads were also lifted from the tablet PCB, while attempting to solder wires. In its final state, the device is semi-functional, but fragile, and will likely be scrapped in the future.
