2" Square tube linear bearing

Simple sliding block for a 2" square tube

Similar projects worth following
This sliding block was designed as a part of an assembly process assisting equipment i used in my factory.
I weld the whole structure but this is not a required. Since i have large off the axis load i added two plates to provide extra rigidity and solid attachment points. Those two plates if used must to be welded.
It use a 6200 deep groove ball bearing, ID-10, OD-30, W-9. To adapt for a different size you need to adjust the holes center to center distance.
Since this block is designed to be used with a 2" square pipe that come with a large tolerances preloading or bearing adjustment is not designed and not required.
The slide block is intended to be used in not critical application where a large off the vertical axis load may cause significant torque momentums on X and Y axis.
To safe some time i do not design any spacer but use a shim washers to keep the proper distance between the bearings.

Are those washers or rubber grommets or ? Are the bearings just kind of 'squeezed in there', or what are they actually 'sitting on' ?

Those are steel washers, you can turn a steel spacer instead but I didn't have a lathe and didn't have time to order them.

The inner plates are squeezed' between the outside plates. You can use it like that, but there are limited abilities to attach anything to it.

That's why I have those two extra plates that need to be welded.

I weld everything because in my case I have relatively large console load, that generate significant torque along X and Y axes.

Keep in mind since the square tubes come with significant tolerances this is not very precision solution. It's good for such an applications where you want to guide, but you no need accuracy. This design will not be good for CNC for example.
