Well, it's better to say 'Solder Mess'!

The board 'face' in the middle is worth a thousand words.

First ever try using solder paste and hot dryer gun.

dude you put a bit too much solder paste on the QFP pins, you are going to get some solder bridges. That technique works but you should use a smaller nozzle. Also you may want to put more paste on the bigger pads. Finally, for manual reworks you may want to consider using a lower melting point paste like the Quikchip one, it's easier to work with if you're using a hot air gun to reflow the boards.
