There are some tutorials in YouTube about how to make espresso-style coffee with the AeroPress, using day-to-day products to tamp ground coffee. I devised an extended tamper that can be stored within the AeroPress, together with a filter cover.
Even when we cannot compare the pressure and controls of an electric coffee maker, this is a fun, inexpensive way to find different flavors in your cup of joe.

PLA is preferred to ABS as you do not have to deal with nasty plastic smells. If this is used with a second filter, the plastic is never in touch with the coffee, nor with high temperature water.

Why do you need it? When I make coffee, most of grounds settle at bottom already. Does it really change flavour?

With this tamper you can get a little crema, and the flavor does change a little bit. But that said, coffee made with the Aeropress is delicious already! This is just to add some variety and experimentation.

Neat, I've been using an aeropress for the better part of a decade and never thought to compress the grounds first. Wonder if it will work with stainless steel filter...

That would be an interesting thing to try!!  However, you would still need a paper filter on top to prevent the ground beans from floating around when pressure is applied.
