After close to three years of not having a temporary pond to obtain some tadpoles to raise, thanks largely to Tropical Storm Debby's rain, I got a temporary pond long enough to obtain some tadpoles.
The remaining tadpoles all seem to be doing well. The Small Spadefoot is looking to be a weekend graduation. For the first time I've shown a photo and video of the remaining Chug Narrowmouth tadpole.
Sadly one of the Narrowmouth tadpoles has passed away today. The fella was part of a pair of Narrowmouth tadpoles living in a gallon jug that I decided to name "The Chugs." Was laid to rest this afternoon. This wasn't exactly unexpected as I've had a hard time caring for Narrowmouths.
I've decided to take a few steps to try to keep the other Chug alive such adding in some water from the bird bath as it's hopefully is plankton rich. It's the closest thing to pond water that I have easy access to.
The Small Narrowmouth seems to be doing rather well as is the Small Spadefoot froglets.
The more progressed froglet in the Smalls group graduated today. I was hoping to graduate both of the Spadefoots at the same time, but the other is at least two days away and the other has mostly metabolized his tail, so that one needed to venture out, eat, and grow. I pray that the fella lives a long and happy life.
Graduation was complicated by the fact that the grey fury resident deciding to make an appearance. I had to keep her distracted so that she wouldn't notice the froglet and try to catch the fella.
Figuring that perhaps Pinecone rock was too difficult to get onto, I switched to a larger container and added a rock that would be easier to get on. Sure enough the more progressed Spadefoot was able to get onto it. Glad that solved the problem. While I didn't do video footage of the tadpoles today, I did to a video of the grey fury resident playing.
Nobody has gotten up on Pinecone rock by themselves just yet, so it looks like graduation will be pushed back for at least another day. Was a little concerned that I haven't seen the more progressed Spadefoot on the rock, so i placed the fella on there. He stayed for a while before going back in the water. Perhaps I'm being overly concerned. Everyone else seems to be happy and healthy this Lord's Day.
Everyone is appears to still be doing well. The Three Narrowmouth tadpoles appear to be growing slowly. I haven't seen either of the two Spadefoot froglets get up on Pincone rock yet, so graduation day for them is looking like it's going to be on Monday.
I now know for sure both the Spadefoots in the Smalls group have hit the froglet stage. Everyone seems to be happy and healthy. Graduation of the two Spadefoots Smalls will likely happen either on Sunday or Monday.
The other Spadefoot tadpole may have hit froglet stage today, but I wasn't able to tell for sure (the one in the photo below, is the first of the two to enter the froglet stage.) The Small Narrowmouth appears health and happy. The grey resident also did her daily inspection.
Everybody still seems to be doing well. The other Spadefoot will soon be entering the froglet stage soon. The Small group Narrowmouth seems to have survived all the stress just fine. The grey resident also inspected things, as usual.
Now I know for sure that one of the Smalls group has entered into the froglet stage. I transitioned both the Spadefoots over this afternoon. The Narrowmouth still remains in the jar. Was a bit stressful, but everybody seems to be doing ok.
