SAO Infinity Mirror

Mini Infinity Mirror SAO

Infinity mirror SAO for Supercon 2024

Supercon Add On (SAO) infinity mirror.  PCB board, two laser cut acrylic mirror and a bunch of LEDs all encased in a 3D printed housing.  This SAO will hopefully provide an interesting display of light as people pass by each other.   There are some traces and through holes that I left in just in case I want to try some things.  Possibly add a potentiometer (dimmer) in the R2 location (I would need to cut a trace for it to work correctly).  Alternatively I could use one of the GPIO pins to control the power with PWM (I probably will not get around to this but the extra traces are there if wanted.)

  • Finished Assembly and Files Updated

    Scorch Works10/31/2024 at 04:17 0 comments

All of the SAO assembly is complete and they are  ready to go to SuperCon.  File section is also updated with new files.  Minor dimensional adjustments were made and the new files also include the Voronoi vent pattern on the front of the bezel.  I also added the KiCad files for the PCB to the project.

  • Boards Received

    Received PCBs, time to solder.

First one is complete (see image)

At the last minute I added a simple, voronoi pattern, grate to spice them up a bit.

    Basic Assembly Instructions

    - Before installing the 18 LEDs the small "back" mirror needs to be placed in the center of the pattern of holed for mounting the LEDs.

    - Bend the leads on each LED 90 degrees and place the LED on top of the mirror.  The LEDS will capture the back mirror in place.

    - After all of the LEDS and the resistor are soldered to the board the "front" mirror can be placed in the bezel followed by the populated PCB.  The circuit board will snap into place capturing the front mirror.

The Supercon Add On (SAO) infinity mirror project sounds fantastic! With the layered design of LEDs, mirrors, and a 3D-printed case, it will create an eye-catching light display. Including traces and through-holes for potential enhancements, like adding a potentiometer or using PWM control, adds flexibility to experiment and refine the effects. This setup should captivate people with its dynamic lighting as they pass by!
