Fortunately for us, our teachers give us two more week to upgrade our fountain and make a real "V2"  of the project so we've made some improvements :

    - Stabilisation :

We stabilize the fountain by adding screw instead of glue :

    - Redesign :

After an advice of our teachers, because they gave us more time to finish the project, we could have a more professional water wheel than the one we have now, so we made some improvement and we go from this :

    To this :

As you can see the new design have directly the small part that we "add" using wood and glue but it can also trap the water easily because of the spoon like extremities.

In the end this V2 version if more efficient than the one we made before, and it work with water !  However the new wheel catch a bit to well the water so each time we used it there was always water everywhere 😂

  • Week 9 - Wednesday - Final Log

    alexy.colard05/08/2025 at 17:02 0 comments

On Wednesday, our team had free time from 9am to 5pm, and we used all this free time only for the mecanical fountain (yes, it's longer than it look)

Our objectives was simple, to link the wheel and the base and fix little problems like the stability of the wheel's supports. We know at first our objectives was to have moving characters on the fountain, but as I said in the last log, we found that it was better to a system that work than a beautiful one

So first we wanted to stabilised the wheel's support and to do that i woke up my inner lumberjack and cutted some piece of woods

And now, the hardest part of the whole project : THE LINK !!

First we took measurements for the link's height using a meter (i specify it because it was hard to get this meter in particular)

Then we had to modify the wheel again, so we had to cut more wood, but we used technology this time :

and we made the assembly :

Then to completed the link with the based, we had to laser cutted a small gear (so first we have to design it, and it takes time)

After that, one member of the team had a little crashout because of the very long wait for the laser cutter and the fails etc... :

Then we had to contruct the link :

Finally because the link was unstable we had to stabilize it, using pieces of wood and a screw, so you know what it means :

    the lumberjack has returned !!

And this, is the final version of our mecanical fountain :

    All the system worked perfecty.

It's crazy to say that but the project is finally over !! (Yes they said 3 weeks we did it in 1 day). It was a long project but the satisfication of finishing it is enormous, we are so happy that first, it work (yes it turns, but i can't upload video on a log)  and in second place that we made everything by ourselves, the structures, the systems, the wheel's design everything !

So it's our mecanic fountain !

It's the End of this project, so goodbye, it was my last log, and remember that everything is a gear !! 👋

  • Week 9 - Monday and Tuesday

    alexy.colard05/08/2025 at 14:43 0 comments

It was our biggest week so far, we did so many things, so this time I devided the log in two parts :

    - First, on Monday we upgraded the water wheel. Even if it was already working, the effeciency wasn't that good, so we added two disk, and the result was way better than the original.

Because we had other courses we couldn't do anything more, however we planed to do the other parts on tuesday and wednesday, because we had more free time but also because we could have a better access to the laser cutter

    - On Tuesday :

    - First after adding support for the wheel, we showed at our teachers how advanced was our project :

Then due to approching deadlines, we decide after a quick prototype to replaced the upper part of our base with just a little platforms for the wheel supports, because we prefer to have a fountain that work instead of a unfinished project that look good :

After that we made a little assembly with a bucket to stocked water and showed to the teachers that our water wheel worked :

Then to finished this day, we have done a little showcase of the project to our teachers to show them how our water wheel worked. Even if they find it good, they were clear, we only have one week left, and if we want to finish our project and link the base with the wheel, we needed 3 WEEKS ! So it was clear that according to them, our project was over... But that wasn't our feeling, WE WILL DO ANYTHING IN OUR POWER TO FINISH IT !!

    To be continued

  • Week 8

    alexy.colard05/05/2025 at 12:29 0 comments

During this session we finally test and print the major pieces of our project

  • Week 7

    alexy.colard04/22/2025 at 10:53 0 comments

During this session we weren't in the usual room, but even so we managed to continue the project.

    - We modified and printed the first prototype of the water wheel

    - We designed the other parts of the base

    - We (with the help of the teacher) created other designs for the water wheel in order to upgrade the efficency of the fountain

  • Week 6

    alexy.colard04/12/2025 at 14:50 0 comments

Two major event happened during this session, first, we decide to replace the infinite screw by a hydraulic pump (first image), then we make a hugh advancement in our project by printing the gear of the main piece of our project, using a laser cutter.

  • Week 5

    alexy.colard04/01/2025 at 20:10 0 comments

During this session we really focus on the 3d assembly and simulation and due to that we achieve to have every mesurement we need in order to start the final step of the prototype, we are really close to have a first real operational version of our fountain, we just have to had some minor details and print

  • Week 4

    alexy.colard03/18/2025 at 16:34 0 comments

During this session we focus on the modelisation on Autodesk, creating almost all the pieces of our project

  • Week 3

    alexy.colard03/15/2025 at 17:24 0 comments

During this session we really improve the whole project, we made a first version of the project upgrading the first mock-up made the week before. The system work logically but we didn't use this much water because water can destroy cardboard

We also decide the "real" materials we will use like wood for the background or plastic for the place that will stock water

At the same time we start the mecanism on Autodesk Fusion using video.

  • Week 2

    alexy.colard03/15/2025 at 16:59 0 comments

During this session, we make the project go from a concept to reality, we decide the dimensions of all the elements of the fountain.

We also start to do a mock-up in cardboard

    Dimensions : 26 x 30 cm footprint

Composition : 2 parts, one with decorations and the other with all the component screw and gears etc
