Yousra egg cutter

The goal is to make the egg cutter less dangerous for Yousra

Yousra found the egg cutter too dangerous with the blades, so we looked for a solution to make the object less dangerous. For this, we thought about adding safety boxes above and below to contact the blade less easy and make the object safer to use.

Yousra lacks arm strength, which prevents her from carrying heavy objects or making certain movements. Cutting with a knife or opening a can is very complicated for her without an object adapted to her needs. She therefore uses special objects designed for her situation to help her in her daily life. • The right assembly

This week, our goal was to create a first wooden prototype. However, before doing so on wood, we wanted to test assembling different parts on cardboard. So we went to the boxes.py website to test the assembly methods. We tested an assembly that met our needs. In the next session, we will have to continue along this path to find the ideal assembly.

  • The cardboard prototype

This week, we created the final prototype in cardboard before creating it in wood. This prototype was reworked several times before achieving a result that was both practical and aesthetically pleasing. We redesigned the egg cutter so that it could be used as Yousra intended. Now we need to test it and begin the wooden prototype.

Last time, we imagined a box system with blades located at the top. These blades would be surrounded by a small wall to prevent the egg from coming out when it was placed. Once pressure was applied, the cut egg would be placed in the box, serving as a container. This approach was validated by Yousra; all that remains is to create a prototype.

We therefore copied the pattern of the egg cutter to recreate over it a box that can perfectly nest. Thus, the object was safer, because Yousra just had to press on the cardboard parts without having close contact with the blades.

We first thought of a 3D printed box. After the first prototype, we thought wood would be a better idea.
