KYWY: A Pocket-Sized Platform for Builders, Hackers, and Innovators

🏠 Our Story: A Homegrown Startup Fueled by Passion
My brother and I started KYWY as a hobby, prototyping in my apartment with cheap tools and a lot of heart. As kids in the 2000s, we missed the charm of simple gaming systems—like Tamagotchis and tiny handheld minigames with LCD screens. After many iterations, we settled on the RP2040, the same reliable chip that powers the Raspberry Pi Pico and has a huge developer following. Today, we're hand-assembling KYWYs in my apartment using our 3D printers. If you buy a kywy today it will personally be built by us.

🔌 Built for Expansion
KYWY features exposed GPIO headers and I2C support, meaning it’s not just a gaming device — it’s a launchpad for hardware hacking. Want to add a sensor array? Build a wireless controller? Hook it into a robot? You can, right out of the box.
The open expansion system ensures that KYWY grows with your ideas, not against them.

🛠 Open Source from Top to Bottom
From the firmware to the PCB designs to the 3D-printable case files, KYWY is fully open-source.
You can fork it, fix it, hack it, and even rebuild it from scratch if you want.
No hidden drivers, no locked bootloaders, no gatekeeping — just hardware made the way it should be: for the people who use it.

🌍 A Platform for the Community
We're not just releasing a product — we're building a community.
As more creators pick up KYWY, we’re working to grow a shared library of games, tools, extensions, and mods that anyone can contribute to. Whether you’re a software dev, a hardware hacker, or just someone who loves open projects, there's a place for you here. Join the discord to learn, contribute, stay up to date, and explore projects.

🚀 Where We’re Going Next
KYWY is just the beginning. We’re already working on add-on modules, new shell designs, and firmware upgrades based on community feedback.
Future expansions could include wireless modules, new input layouts, or even completely new applications outside gaming — think portable data loggers, field tools, mini control panels, and beyond.

The best part?
Every upgrade will stay true to KYWY’s core: fully open, fully hackable, and fully yours.
