Using macro lens improve the image at short distance allowing for better details. The holder is designed for 20 mm lenses.
A suitable lens are ZnSe laser focusing lenses for 10.6 um wavelength. Keep on mind that when at short distance the magnification and FOV is not anymore ratio of the two focal distance. In that situation we have diopter filter.
