Hello everyone,
I am new to this community. I recently discovered the MicroMod ecosystem and seems like a nice idea.
However, I have seen that it lacks some serious computing power. So I have decided to create a MicroMod, packing an STM32H757 with 16MB SDRAM and 16MB Flash and full Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities. It has most of the interfaces specified in the MicroMod documentation, however it has only one USB 2.0(480Mbps) and SDIO can not be configured as SPI(limitation of the STM32 pinout.
On the plus side, it has 166MHz SDRAM(16bit data bus), 56Mbps WiFi(LBEE5KL1YN) and a dedicated 2 lane DSI interface(up to 1Gbps bandwidth).
The board size is slightly bigger(23x27mm), but it is fully compatible with MicroMod socket.
I am writing this post to gather feedback about the module and see what other features I could implement. Waiting to validate it, before releasing the design files.
Let me know if there are useful features that I missed or share your ideas of implementat
I ordered the PCBs last week. The PCBs are ready, today the assembly starts and by the end of the week they should be ready to ship.
Meanwhile, I also designed a display adapter for a 3.4" display. Due to space constrains, I reduced the display connector to the minimum size possible. This was also because there is not quite a standard display connector. They come in many flavors and sizes. Also the backlight configuration is quite different. Without further adue, I present to you, the display adapter:
A modest 2 layer flex PCB(with stiffener on the back). This routes all the necessary signals to the display. In addition, has an integrated boost converter to allow a backlight voltage up to 28V and a MOSFET control for the backlight.
This is for certain Chinese 30pin displays. In the following weeks, I want to develop a 40pin adapter and also a ribbon cable for compatibility with raspberry pi displays.
Let me know what you think, if you need an adapter for a specific display or other features.
The design for the second iteration is done. The PCBs are on hold, waiting for the components to arrive in stock at JLC. The estimate is the end of the month.
Couple of updates related to the design:
- SDRAM is length matched(8mm) to achieve the 166MHz top speed
- QSPI bus to flash is also length matched(8mm)
- The 8bit bus is also length matched(8mm). I am hoping to get a stable 100MHz => 100MB/s transfer speed
- LSM6DS016IS IMU will be populated, I can not wait to play with the internal sensor fusion. I aim to get 9DoF quaternions straight out of it(fingers crossed)
