1Print The Parts
Print the parts with no supports and the following settings unless otherwise instructed.
Print Resolution: .2 mm
Infill: 20%
Perimeters: 3
Filament: I used PLA
Colors: Light Blue, Black, Beige, Grey
Notes: Print the parts in their default orientation.
To make a Type 30 Reproduction you will need to print the following parts:
1 - Case Sides (printed as four pieces)
1 - Screen Mask (printed in four pieces)
4 - Screen Mask Rim
4 - Screen Mask Locking Wedge
1 - Display Holder (printed in four pieces)
1 - Display Card Holder
1 - Back Panel (printed if four pieces)
1 - Back Stand (optional)
1 - Logo (designed to be printed in three colors)
2 - Side Groove Cover
1 - Wire Holder Plug
-
2Assemble The Sides
![]()
Connect the fours Side pieces together with M4 x 8 mm bolts and nuts. For now just use the bottom four holes as shown above.
-
3Assemble The Display Holder
![]()
Start Connecting the four Display Holder pieces together with M4 x 10 mm bolts. For now just use the two holes as shown above.
-
4Attach The Display Holder To The Sides
![]()
Insert the Display Holder into the Sides as shown above. Add the Display Card Holder then secure everything by inserting the remaining bolts and nuts in the places highlighted.
-
5Insert The Display
![]()
Drop in the display from the front. It will be held in place by the four tabs on the display itself and supported by the Display Card Holder.
-
6Add The Cardboard Screen Mask
![]()
Cutout the cardboard Display Mask and lay it over the screen opening to hide the display edges. Line up the notches on the cardboard mask with the slots in the Display Holder.
-
7Add The Gel Filter Over the Screen
![]()
Cut out the Gel Filter and lay it in top of the cardboard Display Mask. This will give the Type 30 a more authentic "green screen" look and further hide the LCD display edges.
-
8Add The Circular Screen Mask
![]()
I attached a Screen Mask Rim to each of the four pieces that make up the Screen Mask with a little glue. These give the rim a metal look (I printed them in silver PLA) like the original. Then push the four Screen Mask curved tabs through the slots in the Display Holder.
![]()
Flip the assembly and push the Screen Mask Locking Wedges through the Screen Mask slots to secure them in place.
-
9Assemble The Back Panel
![]()
Bolt together the four pieces that form the Back Plate with 12 M4 x 8 mm bolts and nuts.
-
10Assemble The Back Stand
![]()
Insert two 1/2" flat washers into the slots indicated by the green circle. These provide the necessary friction to lock the stand in a user selected position. Slide the M4 50 mm bolt through the two stand pieces and washers (red circle). With a few taps of a small hammer an M4 nut can be imbedded into the corrugated knob (yellow circle) used to lock the stand into position.
