Update 01
11/11/2025 at 05:25 • 0 commentsFinally posting on HackADay... Took me long enough huh?
Version Updates
Have been having a ton of fun iterating the design already and I think I have both a rev 1.2 and maybe even a 2.0 worked out. (Major and Minor version bumps are determined entirely by feeling in case you were wondering.)
To the folks who go one at Supercon, I hope you enjoy!
Let me know how it was assembly and to interact with.
Actual Project Background
I like the idea of giving an SAO unique functionality centered around a theme. Lately I've been working with floppy disks a bit to archive (or try my best to) some old data from years ago. That got me reminiscent of the old clicks and whirls you could hear from Floppy Disk drives and old HDDs.
I had gotten a similar idea last year at Supercon and had even gotten part of the way to a prototype before I'd gotten distracted with something else.
Then I saw a video about the HDD Clicker and other similar products designed to give older computers now running on modern flash storage their retro sound back. The idea came back to mind, and I got to ordering parts and designing a PCB right away... is what I would like to say. In reality I ordered a bunch of parts and then promptly got distracted again.
This is how a lot of my free time projects go... Eventually they get done.
