Build instructions and possible kits

A project log for OSUG: Open-Source Underwater Glider

A versatile autonomous environmental drone using a buoyancy engine

Full instructions for the glider are now completed, with a level of detail that if you're able to assemble a RepRap kit, you should be able to assemble the glider. The only tools required are a 3D printer, soldering station, dremel and then various handtools such as hacksaw/allen keys etc.

With the Onshape CAD model, you are able to duplicate the model and adapt the hardware for your own requirements (such as adding a front mounted camera) - this glider is designed to be a hardware platform for others to use/adapt, not a project with a fixed use case.

If there is interest, I may look into the possibility of putting together a few kits containing all parts/3D printed components that are known to work together so you can assemble the whole glider in a couple of weekends.

Is this project still alive? Haven't see any latest updates on either github or here in the project page.

I am wondering if you ever got around to producing these kits, and if so if you still have some available.

I am also interested in a kit once they are ready and the project has been tested a bit

A kit would be great as long as it is realistic in price. Not everyone out here has a full wallet like kevin( no offence ). I'm in NZ so how do I  get involved, local info, in fishhackathon?, Graham

Sorry for the delay, I'm not receiving emails for comments :/

I've just released an update concerning current progress - I'm currently improving the design and testing before I make a few kits. I will definitely try and keep cost down for early adopter kits.

It could be worthwhile sending Graham a private message to make sure that he sees that :)

Put me down for a kit as well. I finally read through all the instructions and I lack some of the heavy equipment to build this (Drill press, hot plate, etc). Any part that I can't get off the shelf "as-is" without modification would be helpful. You may name your price :)

Great! I've just done a general update on the glider, I'm currently modifying the glider design to remove the requirement of some of the heavy equipment (primarily the drill press by not using aluminium bars etc) and to optimise slightly for kits.

I will likely offer a kit with the SMDs already soldered/bootloader flashed, so only through-hole soldering is required. In the interest of keeping cost down I will likely offer a couple of versions of the kits with various parts not being included in each. The Blue Robotics parts will not be included in any of the kits, as this will increase the price.

Sure thing! I've had a few people contact me over the last few days, so I will potentially look at putting together some sort of alpha/beta program if people are interested

I hadn't, but it looks interesting so I may attend the London/Long beach event next time it occurs

That's great to hear, I'm going to LA tomorrow for the supercon, but will be back in the UK in a week or so. I'll keep you posted on the idea of kits when I'm back :-)
