There's of course the great work of Mr Twinkle Twinkie that inspired me to use felt on this design.

This is more of a crafty simple add-on, than a technically complicated. I wanted to expand my skills a bit and went for working with a plotter - cut velour / vynil sticker, that covers a PCB. The different cutouts for the eyes will hopefully produce unique PCBs, in combination witha uniquely shaped, resin-cast RGB LED. The single core wires will allow for different postures of the legs and the arms that are holding and powering the LED.

  • 1 × star or cloud shaped, resin-cast RGB LED
  • 1 × Simple Add-on connector
  • 4 × 5cm (~2 inches) wires
  • 1 × PCB with velour sticker attached

  • velour stickers

There were two choices for the shape of the velour stickers: either cut out the perfect circle and then live with the consequences of misplacing them - or cutout the circle after applying a bigger square. I went for the latter, which worked out ok! I'm going over every corner of the PCB with a black marker anyways, to keep the appearance as black as possible. The velour is great for absorbing the light shining on it.

I found some molds on Aliexpress that seem to fit well with the soot sprites in shape and size, so I will not make my own molds for this. With every run I get around 25 weirdly shaped LEDs, which is nice. I even have a leftover mold in form of stormtrooper ice cubes now.
