MudTronics aims to inspire and connect local makers, artists, scientists, and technologists while developing new approaches and applications for communication, sensing, and ecological solutions, or any innovative and compelling idea. It supports teams in shared designing and building microbially-powered applications, and empowers individuals and ideas to transfer knowledge, strengthen local communities, and build long-term collaborations. Which design and application can use the potential of microbial fuel cells to its fullest? Connecting them to a wastewater stream for maximum output? Using them to power remote sensors? To recyle nutrients from waste to fertilizer? MudTronics encourages participants to explore how a waste-driven low power source can shape IOT, biorobotics, agriculture and other spheres. Open call is launched! Application deadline: June 6th, 2026 More details here: https://www.mi-hy.eu/mudtronics/

MudTronics Competition 2026

Can mud power electronics?

The MudTronics Competition challenges makers, students, artists, scientists, and hobbyists to explore the fascinating world of bioelectronics, microbial fuel cells, mud batteries, and soil-powered devices.

Participants are invited to design and build creative projects that use mud, soil, sediment, microorganisms, or other natural bioelectrical processes to sense, generate, store, or utilize electrical energy.

Who Can Participate?

Anyone! Whether you are an experienced engineer, a student, a citizen scientist, or simply curious about unconventional electronics, we encourage you to join.

    Can you build a useful electronic device powered by mud?

    The MudTronics Competition is now officially open!

    We invite makers, engineers, students, artists, and citizen scientists to explore a simple but intriguing question:

    Can mud become a useful electronic material?

    From microbial fuel cells and mud batteries to environmental sensing and bioelectronic art, we are looking for creative projects that combine electronics with natural systems.

    Over the coming weeks we will publish tutorials, build guides, scientific background information, and examples to help newcomers get started.

    If you have ever wanted to experiment with bioelectricity, soil-powered devices, or unconventional energy sources, now is the perfect opportunity.

    - REISTER BEFORE JUNE 6th, 2026 --> https://www.mi-hy.eu/mudtronics/

    - RECEIVE A FREE STARTER KIT

    - BEST 10 TEAMS CAN RECEIVE MATERIAL AND TRAVEL SUPPORT (UP TP 1800 EURO)

    More project details, rules, and registration information can be found on the main project page.

    We look forward to seeing what the community creates!
