Using a simple ds18b20, pic microcontroller (pic16f628), Lora dx lr02 for long range outdoor sensor to “home” transmission and an esp8266 for uploading to the cloud, this Tutorial on how to build this can be found here:
The beauty of this setup is that no WiFi credentials like username or password are stored on the sensor side, meaning there is no risk of being hacked if someone gets ahold of the sensor (quite easily done in an insecure location).
