A project log for Pi0CKET - Clicker

To get the true Pi zero experience in your pocket, we are gonna need some buttons!!

so i was thinking of having a conventional keyboard layout, giving 70 keys to play with.

After much scouring the internet over the years, i found 40% keyboards and have become interested in the efficiency of being able to do pretty much everything with just 48 keys. This both reduces the complication on the PCB, and the size of the board too. The keyboard chip does keys in rows of 10, so i thought i would round things off to 50, and have 2 spare buttons to play with.

im thinking the default "planck" layout is pretty much where im going, but making it customisable will be good

hehe, why are you sharing your boards on OSHpark when they're not ready? :)

I quote: "DO NOT ORDER!! DO NOT ORDER!! DO NOT ORDER!! DO NOT ORDER!! DO NOT ORDER!! DO NOT ORDER!! DO NOT ORDER!! DO NOT ORDER!! DO NOT ORDER!! DO NOT ORDER!! DO NOT ORDER!! DO NOT ORDER!!"

I figured they make it a bit easier to visualise than a mess of air wires. Plus I had uploaded it for a costing check so it was only a click away O:-)

Same here, but I don't share :) so practical though.

Might have to see if you can share the board URL without sharing it on the osh sharing system

Have you considered laying out the buttons so that the rows are rows and columns are actually columns? In my experience with the #Alpen Clack that makes it so much easier to later design the keymap...

i have as best i can. The central 40 keys are in the same row/column layout as they are in reality, its then the last row i have split and run down the sides. Routing is going to be a nightmare. The clickdomes essentially mean your stuck with single sided routes unless you have massive gaps

I don't suppose you have an extra pin for that one more column?

the chip will support up to 80 buttons, but i want to keep it as skinny as possible. kinda balance button count and functionality

you basically have 8 rows, and 10 columns
