Event Details

It's a maker/hacker festival. Bring what you want to work on or a plan for it, and we'll all help out if we can. I (John) will be working on the upcoming mini-robot battles. You're welcome to get a head start on the competition or help me plan things out. Others will work on contests or private projects.

We had a great World Make Day at Osaka Makers' Space! Our attendance was a little lower than we had hoped, and some of our participants needed repair work more than creative work, but all in all, a great day building, coding, and repairing.

Soon we are going to begin a miniature robot battle competition (Summer 2017). As such, we've been tinkering around with designs. One of our World Create Day participants wanted to get the communication platform for his robot built, so we made a breakout board for a BLE module and coded the robot to be voice activated using that module. It's not the best route for a battle robot, but it's sure to do well in the design category. Do what you want, not what others think is best, right?
We also built a soldering iron stand for the makerspace. We found some wire in the garbage, and I wanted to see if it could be useful. So far so good, but to be honest, it is a little thin.

Earlier in the day we built 3 children's chairs with 2 participants. They had hoped to get their children involved as well, but the kids preferred to run around and watch Sesame Street. I can't say I blame them. Sesame Street in Japanese is pretty entertaining.

Finally we repaired a MacBook Air. One participant's wife replaced the keyboard in her MacBook Air after spilling a drink on it. She did a great job on the keyboard, but accidentally pulled up some pads on the fan connector. We had to hunt down alternative pads that we could solder to. It took a while, but we got it done!
