I bought my Mach3 software license along with the control board (Mach3 3-Axis TB6560 Stepper control board from China. I managed to put it on a machine and denied internet access to the Mach3 website.  But I agree with everyone that has responded, GRBL is the way to go with so much easy to design software much more like 3d printing.

100% best solution, get zonealarm or some other software firewall and block "USB CNC controller" from the internet. Buy/get a new license. License is locked to board id, and these fake boards will update with new installs and auto updates supposedly.

I have a similar machine and had issues with parallel port and mach3.

An arduino running grbl can be hooked up pretty easily to the parallel port or the pins just inside the parallel port, xyz step and direction, ground. Then use bcnc https://github.com/vlachoudis/bCNC (requires python)or openCNCpilot https://github.com/martin2250/OpenCNCPilot (requires windows) to drive the machine.

bcnc has some nice features like text options similar to mach3's built in engraving features.

My machine was much more reliable when driven by grbl, the stepper drivers on the board you have do not like short duration pulses and need a clean signal for step and direction signals.

The PlanetCNC hardware and USBCNC software licence are not actually free as far as I know so unless you actually paid for it then I suspect its a ... Chinese copy! You can from time to time buy licences on ebay (I have several!).

Do make sure that the USBCNC drivers have actually installed. The stall does not tell you that Windows has blocked the install!

GRBL is an excellent choice but you will need to hack your hardware to some degree:

o Power supply

o Stepper drivers

o Spindle motor control

Check first that the replacement driver boards can power your steppers (I think the DRV8825 will be fine but I don't know). I would have done it for my machine but the spindle controller is built into the controller box. In any case I had to power down my steppers to stop them overheating.

I bought a 3020 a few years back and am intimately familiar with your problem. The only solid solution is to forgo MACH3 completely and switch to linuxcnc. I now run mine using a beaglebone black loaded with machinekit. I can guide you through the process if you need. Also, be prepared for the PS board in the controller to burn up the traces on the board. It cant handle the full current and will die eventually I had 2, each lasted about 4 months.

You should be able to get this thing going again by using free software eg GRBL + Arduino + new compatible control board - search for it on google, download, install - find the control board on ebay - it worked well on my similar Chinese engraving machine. I've actually got a spare controller board here somewhere.
