Started with bar-stock and a square rod; thinned out one side of the bar stock using a cross-peen and ball-peen hammer and coal forge. After the stock was thinned out petals were cut in with a wedge and the formed with the ball peen. These were then bent outward a bit at the ends and wrapped around the stem.
