I decided to use a trimaran design for stability. Since this is a prototype, low price and speed of construction is the most important factor. I looked around my shop for 'stuff that would float'. I saw an old pair of PVC outriggers from my homemade kayaks. I also saw a leftover section of 4"x4" PVC fence post and an old laminated oak upper mast section from a gunter sail rig I built a few years ago. I used the fence post for my center hull with the ends sealed with pieces of recycled vinyl sheeting. A scrap 2x4 was used on top of the center hull to act as a riser for the outer hulls and to give a surface for mounting the rest of the gear.
