Chapter 2 - Adaptator X, Materials

A project log for Adaptator X and the chamber of Pickle-Rick

Our project is to create a structure allowing to fix any type of cellphone on a microscope to observe samples with precision.

First part of the microscope adaptator consisted of planning the strucure of it and cutting the parts.

Our adaptator consisted of a main board, cutted in a particular way in order to fix the moving parts. The moving parts are small elongated pieces allowing the phone to move up, down, left and right in order to place it precisely on the microscope objective.

Our first idea was to use a trammel to avoid that the phone falls with its weight, however we found another system and it was not used.

All the pieces were cut in plywood with a laser cutter, following this document :

For scale, the main board's dimensions are 16x10 cm.

Our idea was to fix bars with screw and bolt on the hollow lines, which allowed the bars to move and adjust the phone's position.

Another bar was created as there was a mistake with the first one.
The horizontal bar was fixed with screws and bolt on the two vertical lines.
Two strings were attached to the screws and joined together. When the strings are pulled, the horizontal bar goes up, and when it's not the bar goes down.
Foam was added on the horizontal bar to avoid the fall of the phone, as well as on the two sides of the main board.
