Social Light Flex Module

An identification system that transmits a partial unique ID through light to augment radio based ID systems.

Similar projects worth following
One of Fyber Labs' initial projects, still in early development. Utilizes a mix of light position, flashing, and distinct frequency to transmit information to a camera. Provides (hopefully) enhanced photo tagging and social location capabilities with our upcoming software. Initial hardware will be based on our Flex Module platform.

This board is part of Fyber Labs Flex Module project.

Social Light allows a viewer using our yet to be release mobile phone app/SDK tag/notify a Social Light wearer when they are viewed or photographed with optional photo sharing. Social Light more importantly allows the viewer to get online information through SociACL about the wearer.

Any software related will be released under BSD or MIT license. SAAS or cloud based software will be AGPL.

We will be using OpenCV to help process and recognize flashing LEDs.

We have read papers that stat it is around 15bps maximum when transfered phone flash to camera. We figure if we can recognize specific spectrum components that we can increase this significantly.

So far we have had trouble finding near IR LEDs that don't also emit a red as well.

We have been testing more frequencies of LEDs. We have had some success around 770nm on the near IR side. However, it is clear that humans see UV much better than cameras. So that will require additional work to find camera distinguishable frequencies that are near IR.
