There are In Chile some specialized stores for the Blind, they have, like many other stores, different kinds of accessories, toys, games and pieces of technology. They are all very expensive. One of them was sadly astonishing expensive, a rubik's cube with textures ($20,000 CLP equivalent to almost $32 usd).

So, I tried to build one.

There were (for me) 2 possibilities:

  1. 3D print every part of the cube.
  2. Print (or build with another medium) the textures and uses an old or cheap rubik's cube.

I took the second option.

I found a really cheap cube for about $3 usd, the print had a duration of 45 Minutes.

This project is part of a "social experiment" that I am doing.  I am looking for expensive pieces of technology and games for the blind, and trying to build them cheaper and from the very beginning open sourced. I think that one of the reasons, of why they are so expensive is because there is no competition and diversity of options and not because of the market size.
