Request/Idea List

A project log for Hackaday Journal of What You Don't Know

Simon Merett had a great idea of creating a "request list" feature, where people could submit ideas/topic proposals for white papers to be written on. It could also be an opportunity for teams to be formed and write the paper jointly. So we'll use this page as the "master request/idea list."  Feel free to submit your ideas directly to the comments on this post or edit the post itself if you're a project member  (just make sure to retain this header).

HJWYDK Paper Request / Idea List

  1. How to DIY Laser Direct Structuring - PCBs that contour your 3D print or painted object. (suggested by Simon Merett)
  2. Garden Hacks Citizen Science: How variations in conditions affects growth and yield (suggestion by Peter Walsh)
  3. How to DIY capacitive linear displacement sensors (aka digital calliper) - Signal generation and treatment -  math and heuristics involved. (suggestion by oxomoxo)

There have been a lot of agro hacks and automated gardens and indoor gardens and such.

There's actually a lot of subtlety in scientific gardening. I found out recently that plants use the red light from sunset as a signal to go into "night mode", triggering simple respiration or dormant mode (depending on the plant). Gardeners are experimenting with 18-hours of sunlight, followed by a high dose of red light to put the plants into night mode faster.

It would be interesting to get original research by hobbyists describing how variations in conditions affects growth and yield.

When you say "this page" do you mean this comments section I am currently in, or the HJWYDK project page?

Apologies for the confusion. I meant this comments section.
