Light and Dark Mode...

A project log for Pixels

A set of smart dice, the same size as traditional ones, full of LEDs and Bluetooth-enabled.

Hey there!

A quick update with pictures of the updated D20. I am testing different combinations of materials and silkscreen colors for the dice.

The challenge here is to find a combination that diffuses the light nicely, without blocking most of it out and still looking interesting when off.

This is what the black and white die look like in bright sunlight. There is only so much the LEDs can do at this point, but, hey, that's why it's important for the dice to still be readable when off.

I'm really looking forward to seeing these come to market! Will you have completely opaque ones where you can't see the inside components? Any way to 'subscribe' to know when they might be available from you (or if you're willing to sell a prototype?).

$25/die sounds pretty cheap. Then again, shipping to Europe will most likely add a chunk for me.

I was wondering, are you planning to bring these to market? I can understand that they won't be cheap, as manufacturing will be a challenge.

I am, and am trying to figure out manufacturing actually. My don't-quote-me estimate right now is that I should be able to sell them for $25/die or $150/$170 for a full polyhedral set and charging case.

$25 is very reasonable, even cheap I think. Then again, I most likely need to get them for all my friends as well...
