Add IR capabilities to the Raspberry Pi and use it to control a monitoring TV at work.

I got tired of turning a monitoring TV at work on and off every day, so I decided to add an IR receiver and a couple IR LEDs to a Raspberry Pi and let it handle it for me.

Since all the Pi has to do is run a web browser, the GPIO are free to use. I'm using the 3.3V, 5V, and two GPIO pins - one for input from the receiver and one to trigger the transistor to turn on the LEDs.

On the Pi, I'm running the base Raspbian image, and using LIRC to handle sending the power signal to the TV.

  • 1 × 38kHz IR Receiver Automatic demodulation of the IR signal so we can just deal with the data.
  • 2 × IR LEDs Used to transmit the off signal to the TV.
