Andreas' XG Synth module

Combining an XR385 karaoke card with and interface board and put it in low cost box

Similar projects worth following
My friend Andreas sent me pictures about his setup :
he mounted an XR835 (DB50-XG clone) midi synth board on an interface board
and put it into a low cost storage box.
The result : an external MIDI module, with transparent, top-opening enclosure.

Andreas first idea was to use panel mounted connectors, they can be connected on the headers of the PCB. Then he found this nice box which suits the electronics well. An easy and good looking solution !

  • 1 × NEC XR385 MIDI bard This is similar to DB50XG, but with additional audio inputs. (board is from a karaoke machine)
  • 1 × Waveblaster Interface PCB Hand soldered prototype Interface pcb from http://www.serdashop.com
  • 1 × Low cost transparent box from conrad http://goo.gl/nDkXT4

  • Using the line inputs of XR385

The XR-385 card has line inputs, similar to the Yamaha SW60XG. You can control these through sysex commands, see the commands here. It allows various effects and mixing with the synthesis output.
There's also a mod for these cards, here

    Still to be tested

What a pleasing fit of the box! To be honest, that was enough for me giving the skull :)
