It may be possible to extrude thermoplastic starch into a hose or pipe that could be laid in the field while seeds are being planted. The extruded pipes would be biodegradable and non toxic.
At the end of each row the pipes would connect to a permanent manifold that connects to the main water supply.
Alternatively the extrusions could be pre-made and sold in rolls to be distributed in the field.
Good idea but I believe the life expectancy for pipes that are made from plastic or rubber used for drip irrigation should be "years" whereas a biodegradable pipe product may degrade in a year or two after it is laid on the field. I think it may even cost more to produce such a bio product so this approach will not be economically feasible. But thanks for Green thinking
