This project was created on 05/11/2015 and last updated 6 years ago.

Description

Google "Dalek" if you don't know what that is. There was an ongoing joke on the TV show "Doctor Who" about fezzes, so I combined the two using an Arduino. Check out the video.

It was a hit on the official 50th anniversary convention! In future versions I'll add modes that control the blinking (button controlled, randomly or using relevant sensors) and perhaps the moving eyestalk.

It is currently controlled with a button and a potentiometer.

Thanks! I embedded the video now, looks much better. I'll do the same on the other project I uploaded - that one doesn't even have an image because it's not designed yet :) (Hackathon project)

I played with a microphone but either it was damaged or it wasn't sensitive enough. Same goes for using vibrations for the LEDs. But I haven't put nearly any time into that yet.

I need to replace the fez first because it's too weak now, with the mechanism glued to the top and with all my testing making the top weak. I'll work on the next one and make it stronger. I also need to resolder everything and possibly replace the Arduino because the servo is acting up for no good reason. THEN I'll start looking at mics again :)

Awesome idea! Btw, you can embed the video on this page by adding the link to the details and hit enter afterwards :) Would be cool to see the LEDs blink when you are talking by adding a microphone, reading out the gain values and use analogWrite for the LEDs.
