• 3D Printer!!

    I just got a 3D Printer! It is a rigidbot from inventapart and i got it during a Memorial Day sale for just $400! It isn't the best 3D Printer out there but I think it will help me get going on my project again! It has a 10" by 10" by 10" build volume. Look out for my next logs to see how it goes. Also, I am going to travel some this summer so I don't know how much I will be able to get done.

    I am using a 16x2 lcd display with 16 pins. I hooked it up to the arduino (I am using an arduino uno for now but my finished product will use an arduino mini pro). There are going to be four different displays and a button to switch through them.

    Display 1

    This display will show you how fast you are going(MPH or KPH). It will also show you what gear you are on (It will switch gears for you so your normal thing won't be accurate) and the wind speed and direction.

    Display 2

    This display will show you your trip information. How far you have gone and how long it took you. You will be able to reset the information by holding down the set button for three seconds.

    Display 3

    This display will show you the time and if the gear three setting is on or off. When the gear 3 setting is off, the bike won't switch you to gear 3 (front gears). You will be able to press the set button to toggle Gear_3 on or off. It will also show you the temperature (I couldn't use the degrease symbol so I had to substitute it with ^).

    Display 4

    This display show you the total distance you have traveled on the bike.

    I am writing this log because of the $50 shapeways gift card prize. I think I need a shapeways gift card to help get my project off the ground. Right now I don't have a 3d printer and I won't be able to print out the parts I need for the wind speed sensor and case for all of my components. Just a small shapeways gift card could help me get this project started and I think it could be helpful to multiple people. Even if I don't use all of the money on the shapeways gift card I could use it to prototype other ideas I have that could change the world. I could also share some of the gift card with others who also have great ideas that should not be left unmade. Thank you for considering me for this exelent prize.
