A project log for GPS Disciplined xCXO

A DIY GPS disciplined 10 MHz reference clock

I got an LT1117 from the store today and tacked it onto the board that had the heat problem last night. It worked. It's not pretty, but it's functional.

On the plus side, the heat sink kind of props the board up when it's upside down on the bench.

That's the board with the trimpot I'm using to play with the VCOCXO. It's got the firmware loaded to watch an external GPS PPS signal and report back the error count. This same firmware is going to be the heart of the final project. The only piece missing from it at the moment is the automatic adjustment of the trim voltage (that is, the position of the trimpot) with the measured error.

I suppose the "boil the ocean" move would be to hook up a servo with a screwdriver to actually turn the trimpot... (Um... no)
