A project log for 2.5-3D thing

a tiny-but-scalable three-ish axis-system *from* laser-cuts

ah.

So this is roughly life-size...

The teeth, then, are like... *maybe* 1mm at their widest. and, unless I do everything *just* right (yeah, right... especially not from a [low-resolution] photograph) it seems most-likely I'll only really have one tooth making contact at a time... starting to seem a little bit ridiculous.

I am proud, however; I used a different technique to get real-world measurements from the image for the motor-assembly than for the gear/tooth-spacing, and they seem to align.

As far as material... I dunno what to think. I haven't worked with "modeller's plywood" before, but it's hard to imagine the grains crossing the teeth wouldn't be tempted to fall out at these tiny sizes. And, acrylic, well, that's known to be brittle, so probably all the force on a single tooth jutting out at nearly 90deg isn't such a great idea.

This is an old log entry but anyhow...

I've found tiny acrylic gear teeth to be astonishingly durable, relative to expectations similar to what you wrote. I suppose it's the same sort of material property scaling as ants carrying 10^n x bodyweight on spindly legs. That's entirely subjective, but I suspect that if you made a gear that worked geometrically, this application would neither break it nor wear it out.

Interesting. And a good, memorable, example. I'll keep that in mind for future eneavors, even if I never come back to this one, specifically.

Please, don't hesitate to leave comments on old posts, mine at least!

Ah, but... the only reason I *shouldn't* encourage that is because HaD's email throttling means I'll miss them if you were to say comment on post after post. I feel bad stumbling on years-old comments I never knew were there :/

same. missed opportunities. :(

Behold! I've just learned of "My Notifications"!

Click the drop-down in the upper-left, Then, weirdly, under "My Profile". At least, here, it also eventually shows a brightly-colored number which grabs attention if you wait several seconds.

Maybe we'll see a decrease in Missed-Opportunities, and maybe even some found!

Yeah, there's that. Another dopamine drip!

I'm pretty sure I've had some notifiable events never show up there tho...

...in fact I *just now* saw (didn't see) a notification that I know I saw before disappear from the list.

And now it's back...

Hah, disappearing/reappearing notifications might be one way to hack a [person's] day.

...and right now I have two HaD tabs with different notification lists, even after reloads of each.
