It can run on a variety of operating systems including Android, Lubuntu, Ubuntu, Debian, and Raspbian.

Being a brother of the power hungry M2, the M3 does not want to rest while his brother goes to aquire two more cores. The M3 secretly mastered the powerful art of Octa-core to best even the M2. Unlike his carless brother, the M3 did not lose his SATA port.

Hey there, that's a very poetic project description for a very awesome SBC.

Now, if there was a bigger version with 8GB RAM, I'd be considering it as a replacement desktop workstation.  8 cores is nice, but 2GB RAM is just a little tight for my tastes.  (Edit: seems I got this board confused with some of the AArch64-capable boards out there.)

(Thunderbird likes to eat 4GB on its own.)

Yeah well, that's progress for you.  Once upon a time, my main dev system had 8MB of RAM and a 33MHz CPU not 8GB and a 3.3GHz CPU.

I realise now that the Banana Pi M3 is still only a 32-bit machine, thought it might've been one of the ARMv8 AArch64 capable boards, which ought to be able to do more than 2GB.

I'm doing a lot more with ARM-based machines at work these days, and so having a workhorse on the desk that can do my day-to-day stuff and act as a native development platform for single-board industrial computers running Debian armel would be a handy thing indeed.

The thing is, the RAM is soldered to the board, so what it has when it ships from the factory is what it stays with, thus I figure it's important to aim high as there'll be no easy upgrades.
