Smart (watchband) sleeve

A semi serious project to improve smart watch concepts

Similar projects worth following
Instead of making a cool watch you will throw away in a few years that has no aesthetic or heirloom value. Wear your favorite watch while making it smart. The smart sleeve wraps around the band (might need to increase the band length). Will provide haptic notifications and simple capacitive input as well as fitness tracking.

Curved battery, Pulse Flex Module, 12 axis Flex Module, 3dB BLE Flex Module, Qi/USB charger Flex Module, CapTouch Flex Module, and LRA Haptic Flex Module with a 9mm Samsung LRA. Flex board wrapped around bracelet width curve and silicone'd for protection.

Any software related will be released under BSD or MIT license. SAAS or cloud based software will be AGPL.

  • Silicone sleeve

We are working on coating the sleeve in silicone. The circuit board may be coated directly.

  • Capacitive buttons

We have added capacitive buttons in the hopes to bring more interactivity to the concept. It is similar to the notifier bracelet, though more public.

  • Initial design

The sleeve is a bit large in this implementation. It should function well using a CR2450 or LIR2450. Later designs will utilize a curved LI Poly that will better fit narrow bands.

  • Waiting on functional charger

We have had some weird issues with the Qi/USB charger. I believe I over complicated the management and will be swapping to a simpler fuel gauge and fixed Qi defaults.

Until then we can make a watch battery based version. The curved batteries have similar capacity as the LIR2450 which fit in the holders we have.

  • Heart rate monitor

It is similar to work we have done on our massager concept. We will be implementing a heart rate monitor inside the watch band. Our ECG work with Plessey based electrodes has progressed, but it is complicated. We do have the new Pulse Flex Module and we will try that as well.
