Self-learning TV Remote for the elderly

The remote will only have a few buttons, each can be programmed by pointing the original remote to this self-learning remote.

My Dad has trouble pressing the tiny buttons on his TV remote, so I'm building him a custom remote with only a few buttons that he actually uses. I imagine that my Dad's problem is not unique, so hopefully many others would benefit from this project as well.

Currently the project is still on breadboard stage. I envision the final version that I give to my Dad would be a 3D printed box containing a custom PCB.

This will be the first project where I would need to be concerned about battery life. I'm having fun learning about sleep and interrupts.

I didn't know that I could order custom vinyl stickers.  Looks like exactly what I need. Thanks K.C.!!!

Does anybody know of a good way to custom label these button tops? I believe these button tops are ABS plastic.   I have a 3D printer, but it is only single nozzle.

Print the buttons with the text recessed(or mill the text out), then fill with another colour epoxy and sand smooth.
